A Message from UI President Sally Mason

February 10th, 2009

Sally MasonThe current economy has forced everyone—individuals, businesses, and other institutions both public and private—to confront major financial challenges.  The State of Iowa is no different, and budget cuts to our public universities have already occurred, will occur into the next fiscal year, and may well continue to occur beyond that.  This webpage will provide the University community with information about our institution’s budget and the ways we are meeting today’s economic challenges.

We want our community to stay apprised and be part of the deliberative process.  To that end, we will add information to this web site on a regular basis.  As we move forward, we will observe the long-honored processes of working with elected UI constituencies, and we encourage individuals to communicate suggestions to the administration through this webpage

UI outlines plan for temporarily reducing retirement contributions

November 5th, 2009

Effective with the payroll period beginning on Nov. 1, 2009 and ending with the payroll period ending on June 30, 2011, the University of Iowa will reduce retirement contributions to Defined Contribution Retirement Plans by 20 percent, from 10 percent to 8 percent. The temporary reduction, authorized by the Iowa Board of  Regents, is in response to Gov. Chet Culver’s order reducing current appropriations to state agencies, institutions and boards by 10 percent.

A copy of the plan is available at http://www.uiowa.edu/president/budget/retirementcontributions.html
